You can read that entire article here. At the end of that article, I asked singles to tell me why. Why has the common date become such a rare thing? The comments rolled in, and some fantastic conversation came of it. As I read through and interacted with the comments, 5 big-picture themes emerged as to why TheDatingScene is on snooze for most single Christians:. One of the most common things getting in the way of Christian dating is that many singles reported experiencing unrealistic standards of what the opposite sex is looking for in a relationship.
That goal is to determine if a man and woman feel led by God to become a husband and wife.
Dating is not a relationship that should stand still for too long. Through dating, the man and woman should be learning if they do or do not want to get married.
When they have gathered enough evidence to make the conclusion that they should not get married, then they should immediately breakup as dating would no longer be necessary.
The goal of dating, to figure out if marriage should happen, has now been accomplished. If they gather enough evidence to conclude that they should get married, then they should move into engagement and get married in a relatively short time.
If the man and woman are not sure if they should get married or not, then they should keep dating. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Christian dating when to get married
I personally believe that when a Christian chooses to get married, they should be able to answer at least three biblical questions. Are we both Christians 1 Corinthians ? Are we both bearing fruit that is evidence for our salvation Galatians ?
And are we both ready to fulfill the biblical roles of a husband and wife Ephesians ? Therefore, you should date for however long you need to date to answer those three questions.
While those are the most biblical questions to answer, I believe dating also serves to answer very practical questions as well: Do you both enjoy each other? Do you both have similar goals in life? And is God actually leading you to get married?
Sometimes you can check all the boxes but the relationship is still not meant to be. The argument for this is that, sometimes, we over-complicate this whole marriage thing. Surely the most important thing is that the person loves God, you guys get along and you have some things in common.

The desire to get closer physically is sometimes one of the main reasons some Christian couples decide to get married sooner rather than later. If you love someone and are physically attracted to them, it is only natural to want to take that relationship to the next level physically.
Being physically attracted to the person obviously helps too. Suddenly you realise that he burps every time he eats, or that she picks her nose when she thinks no one is watching.
Christian Dating Red Flags: 6 Signs a Christian Relationship Will Not Last
If you marry someone without taking the time to get to know them, without seeing them in different scenarios, with family and friends, at different times of the year yes, some people are different in the winter compared to the summeryou could be in for more rough patches than you care to count. This may sound crazy to some people, but is not at all crazy to them.
I personally believe it is crucial that you get to know someone as much as possible before getting married to them. Even when two people are right for each other, you can never underestimate the importance of taking the time to get to know each other.
During the courtship phase, you get the chance to ask each other questions and discuss your dreams, and plans for the future, amongst other things. But like I said at the beginning, every relationship is different, and what works for one may not work for the other.

Matt was our recent guest on the Ask Pastor John podcast and answered ten questions on singleness and dating. We get a lot of questions from young Christian men and women who are "not yet married." Their season of life awakens many desires and hopes, uncertainties and insecurities, and tricky pastoral questions. It seems that every young single Christian I know in their twenties and thirties has signed on to at least one dating app, myself included. After all, God has created marriage as a gift (Matthew.
