I'm posting as a reply because I can't how to port a new thread- never done this before. My 15yr old daughter likes a 18yr old. I told her we didn't agree with the relationship as he is a adult.
She said that her son said that my daughter said they can hang out in school. My daughter denied this but I said that I would talk to her if she was sending the wrong message.
She said that unless I can tell her otherwise -nothing can be done. Do I as a parent have any rights to keep this sweet talking 18 yr adult away from my daughter?
The parents think he can't be accountable unless they have sex. Do parents have rights to keep their kids from being victims? Or do we have to wait until the damage is done? Originally posted by vamom View Post.

I could have sworn that my mother said that.
No, September is the date of the post. It is also the "join" date, but it is most definitely the date of the post. Yours is the first post to be added to this thread in over a year.

Hey, this thread is four years old and you're responding to people who haven't been here in years.
All of this is well within the bounds of typical adolescent development. But wherever teens fall on this spectrum, parenting can feel like a constant calibration of limits and freedom.

While your daughter is, predictably, aghast when you show your face in the same room as her and her boyfriend, it would feel even stranger to her if you granted her free rein. Teens expect and count on parents to set limits on their behavior.
Even when they are highly vocal in their displeasure of those limits. It is flattering to be on the receiving end of such intense emotions. It will be important to acknowledge this in your conversations with your daughter about this physical part of her relationship.
Yes, she will balk and cringe at the conversation, but that is part of her choosing a physical relationship. Ideally, conversations about dating for 14 year olds happen in small doses.
They should arise organically and occur when neither of you is upset or angry with the other.
Jan 03, Aside from this, it's generally not a good idea for an 18 year old and a 14 year old to try to have a romantic relationship because even though it's only 4 years, there is a HUGE difference. It may not seem like it, but I'm 18 and I can tell you that people my age are very different from 14 year olds. My year-old daughter has a boyfriend and she wants to spend time alone with him. Every chance they get, their faces are stuck together, and the other day I noticed a hickey under her collarbone. Dating is not a crime. However, if there is sexual contact then the age of consent is 16 in MA. There is an obscure law that is seldom if ever enforced that can make it a crime if the person is between if the year old is of chaste life. Honestly, the reason that it is not really enforced is because of the difficulty with defining. Dec 29, The 4 year gap is not the problem. My 14 year old daughter is not "dating" anyone.
